Si vous êtes amateur de golf et que vous passez un tant soit peu de temps sur les réseaux sociaux, vous connaissez Olivera Cejovic. Plus exactement, vous avez déjà vu quelques unes de ses oeuvres, reconnaissables entre toutes. Golfeuse passionnée, elle se qualifie de “personne ordinaire qui consacre désormais sa vie à promouvoir et raconter la magnifique histoire du plus grand des sports à travers l’Art“. Olivera est une artiste, une artiste de golf.
Bonjour Olivera, qui êtes-vous ?
J’ai 43 ans, mère de 3 grands enfants, Jelena, Marko et Andrija, et femme du meilleur mari de l’univers. Nous vivons au Montenegro.
Quel est votre parcours professionnel ?
J’ai étudié à l’Art Academy, et terminé comme l’un des meilleurs élèves de la classe. Pendant près de 15 ans, j’ai travaillé pour dBO Advertising Agency, fondée par mon mari Branko et moi-même, comme directrice artistiques et nous avons été collaboré dans de grandes et belles campagnes de marketing au Monténégro. J’ai appris beaucoup dans ce milieu, mais ce n’était pas quelque chose qui me rendait profondément heureuse (trop stressant, trop de compromis, trop peu d’art incorporé dans les produits finis, …). C’est pourquoi j’ai décidé il y a 8/9 ans de devenir une artiste de Golf à plein temps et de faire ce que j’aime vraiment: du pur travail créatif avec la liberté de faire quelque chose qui me correspond, qui révèle mes sentiments et ma personnalité.
Pourquoi avoir le golf pour vos oeuvres ?
C’est une histoire amusante. Il y a quelques années, presque par accident, mon mari Branko a commencé à jouer au golf dans les espaces verts autour de notre ville. Comme beaucoup, il devient rapidement obsédé et accro. Il commence à parler de golf tous les jours. J’aimais écouter toutes ses histoires intéressantes, à tel point que j’ai souhaité essayer aussi. Immédiatement, je suis devenu une grand fan de ce sport magnifique et unique. Comme le golf n’est pas un jeu facile, nous essayons d’apprendre à travers la télévision, Internet puis des DVD et des livres. C’était une période amusante. Nous avions seulement deux clubs et deux balles de golf. L’objectif au début était surtout ne pas perdre nos balles 🙂
Cela a duré longtemps ?
Quelques mois oui puis , grâce à un ami au Royaume-Uni, nous avons pu acheter notre premier ensemble de golf: un sac de golf complet et une grosse boîte de balles usagées. Je me souviendrai de ce jour, quand le colis est arrivé… C’était comme les meilleures vacances pour nous tous, nous étions si heureux – comme des enfants !
Et vos premières créations ?
Un jour, mon mari m’a demandé de créer une peinture de golf pour notre maison. J’en ai réalisé une, puis une autre… Encore une autre ! Nous aimions tellement ces peintures et je découvrais surtout que je m’épanouissais en les créant. J’ai donc décidé de m’y consacrer à plein temps avec le soutien sans faille de mon mari qui m’a encouragé à poursuivre et faire connaître mon travail.
D’où votre présence active sur les réseaux sociaux…
Oui et cela m’a permis de découvrir que beaucoup de gens aiment et apprécient mes oeuvres. Cela me donne une force supplémentaire, mais aussi l’obligation de travailler encore plus dur. Avec Golf Art, j’ai découvert un monde nouveau, unique et fascinant pour moi.
Comment faites-vous pour créer vos oeuvres ?
Certains de mes dessins sont créés à partir d’images de grands photographes sportifs professionnels: Tristan Jones, Frank Fohlinger, Joe Velotta, Bernard Brault, avec qui j’ai la chance de collaborer. Je n’ai hélas jamais eu l’occasion de voir un tournoi de golf en direct – et les photos de mes amis et partenaires sont des supports indispensables pour me permettre de sentir l’atmosphère du vrai golf. Toutefois, après tant d’années, je peux créer de nombreuses peintures basées sur mes rêves et mes idées créatives.
La qualité de ses dessins est du plus haut niveau et les golfeurs du monde entier reconnaîtront instantanément ses sujets. Le golf dans son pays natal, le Monténégro, en est à ses balbutiements, mais avec Olivera, nous avons découvert une véritable passionnée du jeu avec une connaissance exceptionnelle de son histoire et de ses traditions. Cela représente combien d’originaux et combien de temps pour une seule création ?
Je suis ravie de savoir que j’ai créé plus de 350 pièces Golf Art. Chaque pièce de GolfArt est une histoire unique. Parfois, j’ai besoin de 10-15 jours, mais cela peut être plus rapide mais aussi plus long. 😉 Ma technique est unique et c’est quelque chose qui m’apporte une reconnaissance mondiale. C’est aussi un élément très important dans mon Golf Art.
Quelle est l’oeuvre dont vous êtes la plus fière ?
Pour un artiste, il est toujours très difficile de choisir une ou deux pièces préférées. Mais il est certain que certaines d’entre elles me rendent très fière et heureuse. Par exemple, Seve (Ballesteros) est l’un de mes golfeurs préférés – et sans doute ma plus grande source d’inspiration. J’ai dédié beaucoup de peintures à cette fabuleuse légende du golf.
Je suis également une grand fan de M. Arnold Palmer, et cette personne incroyable m’inspire tellement. Sa contribution au golf moderne est énorme. Il y a quelques mois, j’ai créé une belle pièce: “Golf Throne belongs to THE KING” qui a une place très spéciale dans mon cœur. Non, cela est impossible de choisir une seule pièce. Chacune a une histoire particulière et cela signifie beaucoup pour moi.
Suivez-vous le golf à la télé?
Comme déjà évoqué, je n’ai encore jamais eu l’occasion d’assister à des tournois de golf. C’est mon rêve et j’espère qu’un jour deviendra réalité. Mais nous sommes chanceux bénéficier d’une chaîne de télévision, SK GOLF, qui diffuse en permanence du golf. A la maison, nous regardons quasi exclusivement du golf: tous les tournois, ou encore les émissions TV Golf World, etc.
C’est une véritable histoire d’amour que vous avez avec la petite balle blanche…
J’ai découvert que le golf n’est pas seulement un jeu, le golf est un mode de vie. L’histoire du golf me fascine, et j’apprécie toujours beaucoup quand j’ai l’occasion de créer des peintures représentant quelques-unes des grandes légendes du golf. Je vis loin de tous les terrains de golf parce que dans mon pays, ils n’existent toujours pas. Nous avons une nature incroyable, mais il manque encore beaucoup de choses dans ce petit pays pauvre et c’est peut-être la raison pour laquelle je vis ici. Mes «rêves» sont plus agréables que dans des endroits où le niveau de vie est meilleur. Grâce à la fascination de mon mari et de quelques-uns de ses amis qui rêvent d’un Open du Monténégro un jour, je me suis aussi impliquée et captivée dans cette aventure passionnante. C’est aussi pourquoi je crée GolfArt pour tenter d’ajouter mes rêves à la magie du golf et de partager mon Art du Golf avec tous ceux qui ressentent la même chose.
Le Montenegro est l’un des rares pays sans aucun parcours de golf, ni aucun driving range.
Vous évoquiez l’absence du golf au Montenegro…
Ce sport n’est pas du tout développé. J’espère que les choses vont évoluer dans mon pays et que certaines personnes feront des démarches pour ramener le golf au Monténégro. C’est malheureusement l’un des rares pays sans aucun parcours de golf et aucun driving range. Toutefois grâce à l’énorme soutien de John Backer et de la société BirdieBall, j’essaie de promouvoir le golf en permettant aux enfants du Monténégro de grandir et de se développer avec ce jeu génial. Le golf favorise les valeurs humaines essentielles comme l’honnêteté, l’intégrité et la courtoise. Ce qui est très important pour les jeunes générations. Mais le golf n’est pas seulement bon pour la jeune génération, il est très important pour toute la société. Je suis sûr qu’après ces premières initiatives, j’aurai le soutien de la communauté locale et du gouvernement du Monténégro. Seule, ce serait mission impossible !
Et où en est votre propre jeu de golf ?
En été, nous jouons justement sur un parcours BirdieBall près de notre chalet à Durmitor. Mais le golf tel que nous le pratiquons dans les prairies est en quelque sorte comme un retour aux racines du jeu. Cela a son charme mais le plus important est que nous apprécions tellement chaque moment. Je prends TOUJOURS beaucoup de plaisir à jouer au golf. Pour le reste, cela ne compte pas vraiment donc si vous prenez tout cela en considération, je ne suis pas mal du tout 😉
Dans quelques mois, la France organisera la Ryder Cup. Travaillez-vous sur quelque chose de spécial pour cet événement?
Bien sûr. Ce sera une surprise spéciale pour mon cher ami Thomas Bjørn et tous les grands golfeurs européens qui feront partie de cet événement, cette fête du golf unique. Je pense que très bientôt, ce morceau unique de Golf Art sera terminé et je les publierai sur mes réseaux sociaux officiels. Je suis sûr que ce Golf Art attirera l’attention et apportera de l’énergie positive à l’équipe européenne Ryder Cup. 🙂
Envie d’ajouter quelque chose ?
Je veux d’abord envoyer mes amitiés à tous mes grands fans en France. J’ai un rêve de visiter votre beau pays et faire partie de cette Ryder Cup… Je crains que ce ne soit pas possible. Mais à coup sûr – une autre fois, dans d’autres circonstances, j’aimerais visiter la France et Paris – ville d’art et l’une des villes que j’admire tellement. Qui sait, peut-être un jour l’exposition Olivera GolfArt se posera à Paris. Tout est possible, n’est-ce pas?
Enfin, je souhaite inviter tout ceux qui viendront visiter le Monténégro, à visiter OB Creative Art-ShowRoom / Gallery, où ils pourront profiter de plusieurs de mes œuvres. Hello Olivera, tell us a few things about you?
I am Olivera Cejovic (43) professional Golf Artist, mother of 3 great kids (Jelena, Marko and Andrija), passionate golfer, wife of best husband in universe, one ordinary person that dedicate life to one beautiful goal : to promote and tell the beautiful story of greatest game ever: Golf – through the Art.
Have you always been an artist? Did you study Arts or are you self-educated?
I finished Art Academy, like one of the best students in the class. Almost 15 years I worked in dBO Advertising Agency (founded by my husband Branko and myself) like Art and Creative Director and have a huge pleasure to be part of some great and big marketing campaigns in Montenegro. I learn a lot working in this field, but that was not something what make me feel deeply happy (too stressful, too much compromise, too small amount of art incorporated in final products, … ). This is why I decide 8-9 years ago to become full-time Golf Artist and to do what I really love and really enjoy : pure creative job with freedom to make something that represent me, my feelings and my personality.
How and why did you decide to use your talent for Golf Art?
It is one very interesting story. Several years ago, quite accidentally, my husband Branko start to play golf on some meadows around our city. And like many others, he become obsessed and golf addicted. He start to talk about golf every day. I enjoyed to listen all those interesting stories. After a while, I was curious and I wanted to try. Right away, I also become huge fan of this beautiful and unique sport. As golf is not an easy game, we try to learn everything from TV, from Internet and later from some golf instruction DVD’s and books. It was a funny time, when we play with couple of clubs and couple of golf balls. The main goal on the beginning was : not to lose any of golf balls.
After several months, thanks to my husband friend from UK, we buy our fist ever golf set, golf bag, and big box of used balls. I will remember that day, when everything arrived … that was like a best holiday for all of us. We were so happy – just like kids.
Day by day, month by month, we read everything we found on internet, we watched golf on TV, we listen so many beautiful stories about this great game. One day my husband ask me to create some Golf painting for our home. I create one, than another … and another … We enjoyed so much in those GolfArt paintings, and also, I discover that I enjoyed so much when I worked on this kind of art. After a while, I decide to start to work only GolfArt. Later, I knew that GolfArt would be my full time job. Didn’t have some plan or idea for the future, I just discover that I love to do that. But my husband give me such a huge support. He start to share my GolfArt with friends and later he told me : “Olivera this look so good, and you must start to share your GolfArt passion with a people all around the world.” Thanks to modern technology (especially social network), I discover that so many people love and enjoy in my GolfArt. That give me additional strength, but also obligation to work even much harder.
With a GolfArt, I discovered some new, unique and for me – fascinating world. Thanks to unspeakable support, humanity and attention by great persons from R&A, after 2 years of work, I create one exceptional and unique project – luxury GolfArt Book : GREATEST GOLF LEGENDS AND THE WINNERS OF THE OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP. Foreword for this book is written by Mr Peter Dawson: “It is an absolute pleasure for me to introduce Olivera Cejovic’s Golf Art. The quality of her drawings is of the highest order and golfers the world over will instantly recognise her subjects. Golf in her home country of Montenegro is in its infancy, but in Olivera we have discovered a true enthusiast for the game with an outstanding knowledge of its history and traditions. This is a wonderful collection of drawings which I commend to all lovers of golf.”
That was an incredible story. I could not even assume in my dreams that such a great and amazing persons (like Peter Dawson, Angela Howe and others) would become not only my great supporters, but also my sincere friends. That certainly had a great impact on me and my further success. After all those years, I have only beautiful experience and so much great moments thanks to my GolfArt. I even become proud member of USGA thanks to my GolfArt. So many great persons and organisations support me and this is priceless. My biggest handicap is that I live so far from real golf and for me is very hard to make some direct contacts with golf institutions, companies and organisations that can really help me and support me in direction that will make this wonderful “story” to the wide audience. But easy come – easy go. More that anything, I have patience and nothing can decrease my big passion and dedication to Golf game and my Golf Art.
How are you working to create your Art pieces? Are they all based on real pictures?
Some of my GolfArt pieces are created thanks to permission that I can use some photos, just like a base for my artwork. Have a great pleasure to cooperate with great professional sport photographers: Tristan Jones, Frank Fohlinger, Joe Velotta, Bernard Brault. I never have opportunity to see golf tournament in live – and photos from my friends and partners are only way that I can see and feel atmosphere of real golf. It is impossible to create some Art dedicated to some legendary person – if you do not know how that person look like. But of course, after so many years, I create many GolfArt pieces based on some of my dreams and some of my creative ideas. With a pleasure I can say that I created over 350 GolfArt pieces. My passion, dedication and hard-work is best described through those artwork pieces. I am blessed that I have opportunity and talent to make something that will remain forever and will be for sure great dedication to the best game ever: Golf.
How long does it take to realise an original paint?
Each piece of GolfArt is a unique story. Sometimes I need 10-15 days, sometimes month or even more to create whole GolfArt. There is also many preparation that I need before I start with a drawing and painting. My technique is very unique and that is something that bring me worldwide recognition. You can easily say : this piece of art is Olivera GolfArt. This is also very important element in my GolfArt. But most of all, the biggest pleasure are people that buy my GolfArt, many professional golfers that order my GolfArt, many custom GolfArt pieces created to some addicted golfers, etc. There is no better reward than happiness and joy of people that really enjoy and love my GolfArt.
What is the piece you are the most proud of?
This is a real hard question. For an Artist it is always very hard to choose one or couple favouritepieces. But for sure there is some of my GolfArt pieces that make me feel so proud and so happy. For example Seve is one of my favourite golfers – and my biggest inspiration. I create several GolfArt pieces dedicated to this amazing golf legend.
Also, I am huge fan of Mr Arnold Palmer, and that amazing person inspire me so much. His contribution to modern golf is enormous. What is your best memory related to your work?
Well, thanks to modern technology, I have great honour and pleasure to meet some exceptional people. From famous professional golfers, to amateur golfers and golf fans. Today, I have really huge number of people that love my GolfArt. And those people make me very happy and very proud. I received so many compliments so many great comments, and this is best reward for my hard-work. But my best memory is connected to one amazing gentlemen and person who give me such a support : Mr Peter Dawson. Will never forget those moments when I received such a nice mails and so many beautiful words from Peter. With just couple of sentences, he learned me so many great life things : to always be polite, become more passionate and dedicated to GolfArt and to work even harder – believing in my dreams.
Do you follow golf on TV? Do you attend some tournaments as a spectator?
I never have chance to watch some golf tournaments in live. This is my dream and hope that one day will become realty. For sure will be exceptional experience to watch all those amazing professional golfers (many of them already my big fans and many of them are owners of my GolfArt). Will be for sure very great and very interesting for me to be part of some golf event. Like always in life, there is many plans that can’t be reached because of so many small problems … but best things happened when you do not expect them at all. We are lucky that we have TV Channel (SK GOLF) with 24/7 of golf. In our home, we mostly watch only golf (every tournament, great Golfing World TV shows, etc).
In a few months, France will organise the Ryder Cup. Are you working on something special for this event?
Of course. This will be special surprise, for my dear friend Thomas Bjorn (Captain of European Ryder Cup Team) and all great European golfers that will be part of this unique golf event. Ryder Cup is really one spectacular and one of the most unique sport events. So mush emotions, so much energy, … such a holiday for every each person that love golf game. I think that very soon, this very unique piece of GolfArt will be finished and I will publish them on my official social channels. I am sure that this GolfArt will attract attention and will bring positive energy to European Ryder Cup Team.
So you started to play golf quite recently, what do you like in this game?
As I already said, I start to play golf on the meadows near my home. My husband also. We both become addicted and we regularly play golf. In summer time, we play BirdieBall golf near our cottage on beautiful Durmitor. Hope that things will be changed in my Montenegro and that some people will make steps to bring back golf to Montenegro. This is unfortunately one of rare countries without any golf course and any driving range. But golf on the meadows where we play is somehow like a return to rootof golf. Have some charm … but most important – we enjoy so much in every moment spent playing golf. And the most important thing for me is that I ALWAYS enjoy so much playing golf. Everything else is less important. But… if you take all those fact in consideration, I am not bad at all 😉
Anything you want to add?
I discover that golf is not just a game, golf is a way of life. When I start to work 8-10 hours daily on GolfArt, I started to read all what I found on Internet. Golf history fascinate me, and I always enjoy very much, when I have a chance to create some of the great golf legends.
The best sonnets, compositions, paintings usually testify to the history of human longing for an artistic expression of the unattainable. Something that is far away, elusive – in the artistic fascination – speaks more of our everyday experiences, which in moments of physical fulfilment do not feel the spiritual emptiness.
It is possible that this is also my story. I live far away from any real golf courses because in my country, Montenegro, they still do not exist. Besides our incredible nature, much is still missing in this small and poor country and maybe this is the reason why living here, my “dreams” are more pleasant then in areas of greater welfare. With the fascination of my husband and a few of his friends who, following the example of their idol – Seve Ballesteros – are chasing the ball along raw meadows and dreaming about a Montenegro Open one day, I also became involved and enthralled into this exciting adventure. Captivated by the mystique and magic of the game and the masterpieces of the greats who, with their skills and imagination, try to overcome human imperfection with natural and other obstacles – on the way to the finishing line, symbolise life itself. That’s why I create GolfArt, as the result of my attempt, as an artist, to add my dreams to the magic of golf and to share my Golf Art with everyone who feels such a philosophy in their own lives.
At the end – I want to send hugs to all my great fans in France. I have a dream to visit your beautiful country and be part of RyderCur 2018 … but I am afraid that this will not be possible. But for sure – some other time, with some other reason will for sure visit France and Paris – centreof Art and one of cities that I admire and love so much. Who know, maybe one day will have Olivera GolfArt exhibition in Paris. Everything is possible, isn’t it?
